Nurse Advisor jobs
In most cases, nurse advisor jobs are non-promotional roles, although in some cases, just to complicate matters, companies with people selling to nurses have given these roles the title of Nurse advisor.
For the purpose of this article the Nurse advisor jobs are non-promotional version, which will be the case most of the time.
Pharmaceutical nurse advisors are fully qualified and registered nurses and members of the NMC. Their role within a pharmaceutical company is to support the sales team within that company. Here lies a very fine line which can be a little controversial. It’s a against a nurses code of conduct to operate in a promotional way, yet unless nurse advisors are, at least indirectly, assisting promotion, there would be no purpose in a company investing in nurse advisor jobs at all.
For an example of how this may work in practise, consider the Product Losec, one of the biggest pharmaceutical products there ever was in the UK, at it’s peak it did over £1M per day!! As a product this was a dramatic advance over previous therapies for the treatment of Ulcers. Once a practise had recognised the huge advancement it offered, they would be keen to switch over all their previous treatments to Losec for it’s better results and lower side effects. By offering to create and fund nurse advisor jobs in a practise, these nurses could run clinics to identify patients either not controlled by present therapy, or suffering unwanted side effects, or with symptoms and not yet being treated. They would then refer these patients back to the GP to resolve the issue. Providing the sales people had done their job properly, the solution would often be Losec.
So, just to summarise, nurse advisor jobs involve the deployment of nurses to operate a non promotional clinic which would ultimately refer patients back to Gps for treatment. Often the treatment would be the companies drug and hence would result in sales growth. Effectively they would help identify patients who needed treatment who perhaps would not be picked up without this resource.
In pharmaceutical Nurse Advisor jobs, the nurse must work in accordance with the ABPI code of as well as their own nurse code of conduct. The support to GP practises usually occurs in scenarios where there would be no resources at all without pharmaceutical companies support and hence the service can be invaluable to the community and very rewarding to the nurse advisor.
Salaries for nurse advisor jobs will vary but packages are attractive and can be equivalent to more senior nursing grades with prospects to progress to management and other Roles.
